PASSPORTS
- Application forms www.immigration.go.ke should be correctly filled and all contact details entered.
- Form PP.1 must be submitted in duplicate.
- Please ensure that the information requested is fully provided, to avoid delay in processing of your application.
- Note photograph specifications
Applications for replacement of passports are forwarded to The Director of Immigration -Nairobi for processing and it takes between 6-8 weeks before a new passport is received.

FAQs
I. NEW PASSPORT/REPLACEMENT AFTER 10 YEARS
The following is required for an application for a new passport, or replacement of a passport after ten (10) years:-
- Full names and previous names used in the passport/travel document;
- Two photocopies of pages 29, 30, 31, 32 and the bio data page of your present passport;
- Pages with endorsements of your profession, your child’s change of name, or deletions, etc;
- Two copies of the Application form PP1. duly filled, with e-mail, phone and fax contacts, etc. Section 7(Revised forms) is not applicable to overseas applicants;
- Three passport size photographs (showing both ears and facing the camera)
- Two copies of your birth certificate. The back page of the certificate is required if it has official endorsements.
- Two copies of your marriage certificate, or divorce decrees (translated into English);
- Two copies of a Deed Poll (if your change of name was not thru marriage)
- The Passport fee: Euros 50.00
- A self-addressed stamped, registered envelope (your name should be on the letter box)
II APPLICATIONS FOR CHILDREN BELOW 16 YEARS
Applications for CHILDREN from 0 to 16 years should be on Application form PP2 together with the above mentioned documents and in particular, with copies of pages showing their previous passport, or an endorsement in the parents passport. NOTE: CHILDREN ARE NO LONGER ENDORSED IN THE PARENTS PASSPORT.
III LOST PASSPORT APPLICATIONS
ALL the documents mentioned in processing a new passport are required plus the following:
- Two copies of a Police Report (translated into English)
- The passport fee in cases of lost passports is: Euro 145.00
- A self-explanatory letter on how the passport got lost
- A Sworn affidavit from a lawyer/notary about how the passport got lost (in English)
IV. DAMAGED/MUTILATED PASSPORT APPLICATIONS
ALL the documents mentioned above at No I are required plus the following:
- Passport fee for a damaged passport: Euros 115.00 (bank transfer or cash);
- Self-explanatory letter giving reasons for damaged passport.
V. PASSPORT RENEWAL AFTER 5 YEARS
Requirements:
- Original Passport
- Application form for RENEWAL of passport PP.3 duly filled;
- Fee: Euros 15.00 (for 32 pages) or 23.00 for 48 pages passport
- Self-addressed stamped, registered envelope
VI. AMMENDMENT OF NAME AFTER MARRIAGE
Requirements:
- Original passport,
- Copy of marriage certificate
- Fee: Euro 20.00
- A letter of request: giving the names to be endorsed in the passport Download Application for endorsement in passport - form PP.5
- A self-addressed stamped, registered envelope (name should be same as on letter box)
VII. PHOTOGRAPHS
- Certify the back of one (not both) of the photographs with the words, “I certify that this is a true likeness of (give your full name and title)” and sign and date the endorsement.
The photographs must be:
- Identical;
- Recent (i.e. taken within the last six months);
- 4.5cm by 3.5cm
- Printed on normal photographic paper;
- A close-up of your head i.e full face so that your ears show taken against a white, cream or light grey plain background
- Features should be clearly distinguishable against the background.
VIII. CERTIFICATE OF IDENTITY
The Certificate of Identity (CIN) has a maximum validity of two years. It is usually issued to minor children and occasionally to adults.
Submit the form with the following:
- Two current photographs 2.5" by 2.5".
- Parent's passport in which child's name was previously endorsed.
- Proof of father's nationality.
- The fee of Euros 30.00.

IX. EMERGENCY TRAVEL DOCUMENT
- An Emergency Certificate is a one-way travel document is issued free to enable a citizen who has lost his/her passport (usually) to return to Kenya
- Requirements include: interview at the Embassy
- Two passport size photos
- Proof of Kenyan citizenship
- Police Report if passport is lost
- Confirmed flight booking/ticket
X. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q My child was born abroad, the father is not a citizen of Kenya and also his name is not indicated on the child’s birth certificate.
A. Section 90 of the Constitution of Kenya states that:
A person born outside Kenya after 11th December 1963 shall become a citizen of Kenya at the date of his / her birth if at that date his / her father is a citizen of Kenya.
Therefore the child cannot be endorsed or issued with a Kenyan passport.
Q. What are the requirements if I need a Travel Document / Passport for my child born in the Netherlands?
A. Complete Application form PP2 for children under 16, provide two photographs, a fee of € 30 for a Certificate of Identity (CIN) or Euros 50.00 for a Passport, provide all documents as indicated above at No.1. The child’s birth certificate should show the name of the father and copies of the father’s passport to prove that the father was a Kenyan when the child was born.
Q. What if the name of the father does not appear on the birth certificate and the Mother is a Kenyan?
A. Complete form PP2, provide two photographs, a birth certificate and the mother’s passport, and a fee of € 30 for an Emergency Certificate (E.C.) for one-way travel back to Kenya. The E.C document cannot be used to return to The Netherlands. It will be surrendered at the airport on arrival in Kenya.
Q. What happens to the child upon arrival in Kenya? Can one apply for a passport for the child?
A. Upon arrival in Kenya, you are advised to apply for a Dependant’s Pass for the child at the Immigration Office and then apply for the child to be registered as a Kenyan citizen.
Q. What happens to a child born in the Netherlands of a Kenyan mother and a foreign father?
A. Such a child is not a Kenyan citizen and cannot be issued with a Kenyan passport nor be endorsed on the mother’s passport.
Q. How long does it take to have an Emergency Travel Document issued?
A. It is issued within 24 hours.
Q. Are passports issued at the Embassy?
A. No, they are issued at the Immigration Office in Nairobi.
Q. How long does it take for passports to be issued?
A. Six to eight weeks or more.
