Ukea- Uhollanzi Kenya Association
In 2004 Kenyans living in The Netherlands came up with an idea of forming a welfare association to help cater for the socio-economic needs of its members who may face difficulties associated with living in a foreign country. By end of that year, the idea became a reality and the Uhollanzi Kenya Association (UKEA) came into being after a series of meetings held at the City of Utrecht in the center of the Netherlands. On registration, the enthusiastic interim officials rolled out a program of action to recruit Kenyans in Holland to join UKEA.
The Embassy expressed support for the formation of UKEA as a well structured means by which to interact with the Kenyan community in Holland. It is only through close cooperation that both the Embassy and UKEA members could achieve their mutual interests. UKEA provides a unique opportunity for Kenyans in Holland to foster stronger ties with their home country as well as meet the needs of Kenyans in the diaspora.
The Embassy also continues to give support to the Kenyan community in the Czech Republic which has also been instrumental in assisting the Mission staff in various capacities in the country. The Mission encourages all Kenyans living in the Netherlands and the Czech Republic to interact closely with the Mission both individually and through the various associations as well.
It is hoped that these associations will grow in strength and reach out to the ever increasing Kenyan community living in Europe with the aim of helping them deal with the cultural and logistical challenges that they may face.
